Do I need a referral for physiotherapy?

No, I do not require a referral for a physiotherapy appointment, as physiotherapists are primary care providers. However, some insurance providers still require a doctors referral to cover physiotherapy services, so check with your insurer.

Why choose Pleasance Physiotherapy?

5 Reasons why you should choose Pleasance Physiotherapy for your care:

  1. One-on-one care. Your treatment time is dedicated only to you. You can expect to start and end your appointment on time. I don’t use assistants, so your treatment is consistent.

  2. Personalized care. No two people are alike, therefore, two different people with the same injury won’t necessarily respond to the same treatment approach. There are no recipes here. Treatment plans are tailored to your own needs, physiology and lifestyle.

  3. Holistic approach. Injury recovery and pain relief can sometimes be a little more complicated, especially with nagging pain. It can require looking beyond the injury itself and taking a look at other lifestyle variables that may be contributing to lingering pain patterns. For example, sleeping patterns, nutrition, stress levels etc. I can help guide you through this process.

  4. Direct billing. I can bill the cost of your visit directly to your insurer (most major insurance companies) so you aren’t out of pocket in physiotherapy expenses.

  5. Communication. Did you know most health care professionals interrupt their patients in the first 8 seconds of an interaction?! I allow you time to tell your story and ask any questions you may have along the way. I can also communicate with other healthcare providers to facilitate better care for you (ie. send a note to your family doctor or a specialist regarding your physiotherapy diagnosis/treatment, request imaging if needed or refer you to another provider.

What should I expect at my first visit?

Your first visit is an assessment designed to determine the cause of your symptoms and formulate a treatment plan suited for you. I ask you to complete an intake form prior to your visit so I am prepared with a bit more information about you and your medical history. Please bring any relevant imaging or reports you may have.

In person, I take a detailed history, asking about your symptoms and what your goals are for treatment. I then do a physical assessment, to determine the pathology causing your pain or concern. We then discuss treatment options and recommendations to get you back to what you love! Typically, treatment begins at the first appointment.

How should I dress for a visit ?

Wear comfortable clothing which allows for visibility and easy movement of your area of concern. For example, if I am assessing your shoulder wear a tank top. If I am assessing your hip or knee please wear shorts.

Are your services covered by OHIP ?

No, unfortunately I cannot bill my services under OHIP. For OHIP covered services check the Ministry of Health website.

Do you accept WSIB claims ?

I am not a registered provider with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), which means I cannot submit claims directly to WSIB for reimbursement. I can provide treatment for workplace injuries, but it requires that you pay for my services and then submit your receipts to WSIB for partial payment.

Do you accept motor vehicle accident (MVA) claims?

Yes, I do treat injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident. Is it helpful to have some information regarding your claim available before your first appointment. This includes your claim number, policy number, insurance company name, date of accident, adjustor’s name and contact information.

Can I claim your services under acupuncture?

Often private insurance plans have a separate amount of coverage included for acupuncture. As a physiotherapist I can only bill my services under physiotherapy.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I currently accept cash, e-transfer, debit and credit card payment.

Which insurers can you direct bill your services to?

I can direct bill to most major insurance carriers. I submit claims through Telus eClaims, Provider Connect, SunLife and Blue Cross/Medavie (includes Veterans Affairs).

Your insurer needs to be registered with one of these companies in order for me to submit your claim online. See the full list here.
